With all the challenges and responsibilities that we have to face every day, it is perfectly natural for us to get overwhelmed and neglect our well-being. We must strike a healthy balance between our personal and professional lives to function better as human beings. Here are some simple habits that you can start today to improve your overall wellness.

Change your Lifestyle

Some experts say that it takes 21 days to form a habit, while a study shows that it takes an average of 66 days for a behavior to become a new habit. Changing a bad habit does not happen overnight either, so it is crucial to recognize your daily stressors and unhealthy practices so that you can consciously work on them.

Identify the things that you can efficiently work on and then commit to addressing them. Make an effort to get enough sleep, and remember that quality is often better than quantity. Adults are recommended to get at least seven to nine hours of sleep per day, but each person is different, and sometimes, getting less than seven hours is enough for some people. Try to form the habit of sleeping early and avoid staying up until the wee hours of the morning. Create a simple bedtime routine such as eating dinner early, taking a bath, putting away your mobile gadgets, and listening to relaxing music before going to bed. Doing so will increase your chances of getting uninterrupted sleep.

Be wary of your environment

Your environment can also affect your overall well-being. A toxic and stressful environment can be detrimental to your mental and emotional health. Surround yourself with positive and motivating people and avoid interacting with those who tend to bring you down. Make it a habit to say no and stop wasting your precious time on people that do not respect your boundaries.

Make better choices

Rather than driving to work, consider commuting instead. Walking to work will allow you to get the needed exercise as experts recommend adults to engage in moderate aerobic activity for at least 150 minutes per week. Wear a step-counting device and track your daily steps. If you cannot commute, make sure to walk for at least 10 to 15 minutes during your breaks. You can even park at the farthest parking space then walk from there.

Skip the sugary soda and go for a fruit smoothie instead. Preplan your meals to make sure that you get the nutrients that your body needs. Planning your meals will enable you to make healthier food choices and prevent you from eating processed food. Make sure to eat a well-balanced diet, preferably one that is high in fiber and protein. Try to eat at least one fruit a day and look for healthy food substitutes.

You might want to look into other tasty alternatives to soft drinks. Fruit smoothie bowls are delicious tasting and much healthier, so they might make it easier to make this switch.

Limit your alcohol intake and consider drinking wine instead of hard liquor. Instead of smoking, look for alternative approaches such as vaping, nicotine products, or acupuncture treatments. Switching to these options will improve your overall well-being so that you don’t feel tired anymore.

We tend to sacrifice our health for the sake of fulfilling our duties. It is vital that we properly take care of ourselves so that we can also care for the well-being of our loved ones.
