A couple of years ago, Scientific American published an article on all of the problems we have with our teeth. The good news is that there are treatments worth pursuing, such as Impress.

For a long time now, it has no longer been necessary to worry about the aesthetics of your smile while straightening your teeth with orthodontics. All kinds of people can opt for very discreet treatments that are not obvious to others.

Clear aligners and lingual orthodontics are the most requested systems as invisible orthodontics, as they are much more discreet than conventional techniques. This is an advantage for anybody that doesn’t want to make their desire to get teeth alignment treatment obvious.

The vast majority of times, patients opt for invisible orthodontics, due to its great differential advantages. However, below we will show you everything you need to know about lingual orthodontics and its main differences with Impress clear aligners.

What is lingual orthodontics?

It is the most advanced bracket technology. The appliance is placed on the inside of the teeth, which makes it the only 100% invisible orthodontics.

The brackets are made to measure for the patient, in a gold alloy, thanks to computer software that guarantees maximum precision in the correction of the smile.

The size of the appliance is smaller than traditional metal brackets, facilitating the adaptation period of the person.

Lingual braces or Impress clear aligners?

Now that you know what lingual orthodontics is all about, the question probably arises as to whether one or the other is better. The main difference between the two orthodontic devices is that clear aligners are removable and lingual brackets are fixed, with neither option affecting aesthetics.

Depending on the patient’s lifestyle habits, lingual braces can be much more beneficial than removable braces, or vice versa. In order for you to be able to decide which aesthetic orthodontics is the most suitable in your case, we are going to analyze the differences between lingual orthodontics and clear aligners.

The main difference between clear aligners and lingual orthodontics is that the former is removable. This has the great benefit that you can take it out to eat and brush your teeth. However, it also requires a greater commitment on your part so that the planned treatment does not take longer than expected. Lingual brackets are fixed, and do not require much attention to treatment, with the great disadvantage of not being able to remove the appliance in any case.

If the main concern is the comfort of the treatment, clear aligners are the most comfortable option. The dental splints hardly cause any discomfort to the oral structures and the adaptation period is shorter than with lingual braces. Lingual orthodontics can also be uncomfortable, although the discomfort disappears in a few weeks, allowing complete adaptation to the appliance.

Limitations in eating

You normally need to be careful about what you eat with braces. Fortunately, that isn’t as much of an issue with clear aligners.

One of the advantages of clear aligners is that it does not limit you in any way when it comes to eating any type of food. As the brace has to be removed for this, you can eat whatever you want, without too many worries.

This advantage does not occur with lingual braces, as it is important to bear in mind that you should not eat hard and sticky foods as with traditional braces.

Oral hygiene

One of the most important concerns when choosing orthodontic treatment is oral hygiene. Clear aligners are removable, so that dental cleaning routines can be carried out as normal and correct oral hygiene can be guaranteed.

With lingual orthodontics, on the other hand, caution must be taken as it is important to pay close attention to the area where the appliance is placed and to avoid the accumulation of tartar and bacteria in this area, thus limiting the possible formation of caries or periodontal diseases.

Price

The price of clear aligners is another of its advantages over lingual orthodontics. Lingual orthodontics has a somewhat higher price. This is due to the fact that both the materials used and the procedure require meticulous expertise, which makes the whole treatment more expensive.
