CIOs have a lot on their mind, especially when it comes to understanding the latest technologies and their applications. According to the Society for Information Management’s 2016 IT Trends Study, a top CIO concern is making IT more responsive to the organization and better aligning IT with the business. A case in point: in healthcare: the right investment in technology can improve access to clinical images and patient data, and promote collaboration.

The Society for Information Management (SIM) is an association of more than 4,500 CIOs and IT leaders. Its IT Trends report—which the organization has conducted annually for more than 30 years—remains one of the principal studies on the concerns and priorities of IT leadership. This year’s study included responses from 1,218 members representing 785 organizations with total revenues of nearly $5 trillion and total IT spending of $250 billion.

According to this Bloomberg story on the SIM report, “Alignment of IT and/with the Business” ranked No. 1 for the third straight year—and it has placed in the top three for more than a decade.  For tech leaders working in healthcare, the need for alignment is heightened by initiatives like Meaningful Use and mandates associated with the Affordable Care Act.

Carestream Health’s Vue Clinical Collaboration Platform is a strong example of technology supporting a business priority: giving physicians and administrators the clinical support they need to improve quality and reduce costs. It’s a modular, standards-based platform that gives those who provide, manage, receive and reimburse healthcare secure access to the right clinical images and data at the right time.

Not only is Vue a linchpin to align IT investments with business priorities, it also address a second top concern of CIOs cited in the study: “business productivity/efficiency.”Thanks to the Vue, healthcare CIOs have a little less to worry about. #healthIT #PACS
