The company reported that “tens of millions” of records were stolen, including personally identifiable information such as names, social security numbers, birthdates, and more in what is described as a “sophisticated” attack. At this point, health records and payment details do not appear to have been compromised, according to Anthem officials.
This data breach trumps the 4.5 million records compromised in a Community Health Systems breach from last year, and is one of the largest in an ever-growing list of high profile breaches.
