Farzad Mostashari, former National Coordinator of Health IT and current Visiting Fellow, Engelberg Center, Brookings Institute was walking by our Health Innovation Media video setup at HiMSS 2014 in Orlando.  We asked him to come over and say a few words on camera.

Farzad Mostashari, former National Coordinator of Health IT and current Visiting Fellow, Engelberg Center, Brookings Institute was walking by our Health Innovation Media video setup at HiMSS 2014 in Orlando.  We asked him to come over and say a few words on camera. Just then Neil Versel, well known independent journalist also tried to pass by our lair, so we snagged him too. The result is a really fun video interview that sheds light on what Farzad will be focusing on while at Brookings.

Importantly, he points out that he has always felt that building the nation’s health IT infrastructure, as challenging as it was (and continues to be) is necessary but not sufficient, to drive meaningful improvements in healthcare.  You also need a viable business model that supports delivery of quality care at an affordable price.  Thus, two important topics Farzad tells us he will be working on while at Brookings are payment reform (moving from pay for volume to pay for value) and development of new delivery models, such as accountable care organizations (ACOs).
