It can take some time before you fully understand the ebb and flow of your body. After all, there are a lot of factors that can cause the body to change. However, once you learn how your body works and reacts to certain factors, you can improve your overall health. Before long you’ll be able to listen to the response your body is giving you and make effective decisions. If you’re not sure what things you should know about your body, this list below should give you a good start:

1.  Your Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, BMI

There are three important numbers that every woman should know by heart – cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and the body mass index. When these numbers exceed normal levels, it could indicate that something is off. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, and a high body mass index can lead to serious conditions like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, heart attack, and more.

2.  Your Menstrual Cycle

Though you may have thought that charting your menstrual cycle was for those who were trying to conceive, that is far from the truth. Every woman should know the date of her last period, the average length of her cycle, and whether she’s regular or irregular. You should also keep track of symptoms during your period such as cramps, bloating, headaches, inflammation, and so forth. Your menstrual cycle can tell you a lot about your reproductive health. It can also help you with early detection of feminine issues like fibroids, cysts, ovarian cancer, and more.

3.  How Exercise Affects Your Body

Every woman is different. An exercise routine that works for one woman may not work for another. Since exercise is a significant part of maintaining a healthy weight and optimal health, learning which exercises work best for your body is ideal. When exercise is effective, you’re inclined to work out more often. Maybe tapping into new fashion trends, such as athleisure cycling garments, and riding your bike would work best for getting rid of stomach fat, while Zumba classes might be beneficial for helping to shed excess body weight. Once you figure out how exercise affects the body, stick with an option that will generate the best results.

4.  Your Breast Health

Do you regularly give yourself breast exams? As prevalent as breast cancer has become, it is important for women to know about the health of their breasts for early detection. Breast self-exams are likely something that you’ve heard your doctor or gynecologist talk about. It is a process that should be done at least once per month to check for lumps in the breast. You should also pay attention to the shape, discharge, and condition of your breasts for anything suspicious.

5.  How Stress Affects Your Body

Stress is a normal occurrence in life. When you lead a busy life, stress can be heightened. It is important for a woman to know how stress will affect her body. There are plenty of warning signs that you’re under a lot of stress including but not limited to hair loss, irregular periods, fatigue, decreased fertility, weight gain, poor digestion, and much more.

6.  How Foods Affect Your Health

While you don’t have to diet to be healthy, it is important to consume the right vitamins and nutrients. As every woman’s body is different, the types of foods you eat will have a different affect on your body.  For instance, dairy products are good for you because they provide calcium and vitamin D, which are essential for bone health. Consuming dairy within reason is recommended. However, as people age, they can develop an intolerance to dairy. It can cause digestive issues and allergic reactions. Knowing how your body reacts to certain food groups will essentially help you to carve out the best dietary menu.

There is so much about the body that you should be aware of. If you do not know the above six things about your body, this is a great place to start. Talk with your doctor, gynecologist, and other medical professionals about your medical history. This can assist you in becoming more health literate. Also, keep journals such as food diaries or meal plans to help you learn more about your body. From there, you can adapt a lifestyle that will help you maintain optimum health.
