Your brain is the activity center of your body. Taking care of your brain keeps your mind sharp, and helps the body stay sharp too. Luckily for us, there are ways to exercise and train the brain that helps us keep it in tip-top shape. Today, we’re going to go over 5 simple ways to keep your brain sharp and healthy. Let’s take a look. Constructive Conversation Having a simple conversation is one of the best ways to keep the mind healthy and sharp. Speaking to one another gives the brain an intense experience to focus on. Talking to someone about friends and family are a great way to keep your memory sharp. Like everything in life, families have intricate details that always continue growing. Learning about your loved one’s lives is a great way to exercise your association skills, and that practice keeps the mind sharp. If you loved one suffers from dementia, conversations are a great way to help them exercise their brain, too. Keep it slow and ask one question at a time. When you loved one shows they understand, you can move to the next. Try not to bombard them with too many details at once, as it could cause confusion or frustration. Pursuit of Education Just like talking about your family, pursuing new knowledge is a great way to keep your mind sharp. That ability to learn and consume knowledge is an inherent part of being human, so make sure you put it to good use. As you start to learn and understand your new topic, your brain is working. When your brain is working, you are doing what you can to maintain it’s health. It’s important to continue learning new skills and topics because it keeps the brainwaves active. The more we learn, the more the brain fire off specific neurons, and that keeps those pathways open and working. Healthy Eating Habits Your brains function can be improved by the foods that you eat as well. Try to eat more oily fish if it’s not already part of your diet. The omega-3s in oily fish are good for your brain. Another great item to add to your diet is leafy greens. Vegetables like broccoli, kayle and spinich help your brain stay healthy too. What you put into your body is what your body will get out of it. That means taking care of your brain comes down to creating a healthy diet for yourself. Quit Smoking Sure, sure, you’ve heard it a million times, you need to quit smoking. Well, if you are trying to maintain or improve your brain health, you really should quit smoking. Smoking deprives the brain of that all-important oxygen, and as you smoke more, your brain gets less and less. This can also lead to dehydration if you aren’t drinking water on top. This combo is a killer for brain health. Quit smoking for your brain’s health. Video Games That’s right, playing games can help your brain stay healthy. Now, you need to understand that a games function on the brain comes down to playtime, complexity, and so many other factors, so not every game will improve your game. So, what games will improve your brain’s function? Strategy and memory games help your brain health the most. That means games that require a lot of memory, thought, planning, and adaptation can lend to brain function actually improving. The level of interaction isn’t always the key either, and that means these games can be simple. One of the best examples is chess. There are 7 different pieces with their own set of rules for how they can move on the board. It ultimately seems simple, until you realize the millions of combinations a game like chess can create. This adaptive strategy game utilizes the brain in an amazing way. It ticks all the boxes when it comes to a healthy brain game. Save Your Brain You can do so much to save your brain’s health. These are just a few examples from gathered from brainwave specialists like Neuro Grow. These simple little tips can help your brain stay active and healthy in the best way possible. Do you know of any amazing brain health tips? What’s your special way to exercise your brain? Let us know in the comments below.
