In honor of National Employee Wellness Month, we wanted to take some time to recognize several of our PFCD partners for their commitment to improving health in the workplace.

Johnson & Johnson views promoting health and wellness at work as a logical extension of the company’s mission and values. Not only do wellness programs contribute to productivity in the workplace, but they also decrease health costs and improve employees personal well being. They have worked to achieve these goals by encouraging physical activity and healthy eating by distributing pedometers to employees, providing onsite fitness centers, and offering healthy food choices at their eating facilities.

WellPoint considers workplace wellness programs an effective method of improving the health and well-being of their employees. Some of their wellness programs include onsite health services and screenings, tobacco cessation programs, weight management programs and fitness club reimbursement. The plan they offer allows employees to tailor the programs to individual needs.

BlueCross BlueShield Association is also paving the way for employee wellness programs. Their program addresses several different factors that contribute to overall health and well-being. BCBSA provides free access to on-site exercise facilities as well on-site biometric testing. Additionally, they hold an annual health fair for their employees.

Healthways strives for a corporate culture of total wellness and preventive health. Not only do they offer fitness programs to address employees’ physical well-being, they also provide other opportunities to improve overall well-being.  Their employees participate together as community volunteers throughout the year — from walks to support the American Heart Association to shopping for underprivileged children during the holiday season.

Next week we will be spotlighting UnitedHealth Group’s innovative wellness program that moves beyond employees and engages the whole family as a strategy to combat childhood obesity.

We look forward to hearing what other interesting and innovative ideas our partners and companies across the U.S. implement during the National Employee Wellness Month. What is your company doing to promote wellness in the workplace?
