As the weather starts to turn grim and grey at home, you might want to get away from it all. Rather than dealing with the cold, you could instead opt to travel abroad to a climate full of sun and warmth. When doing so, many people like the idea of visiting a beach, either for the day or the duration of the trip. Therefore, it could be a good idea to consider some beach essentials that can allow you to both have fun and stay safe.

Almost everybody enjoys going on a pleasant beach holiday. After all, going on a vacation is important for our health. Unfortunately, we all have to face certain safety risks during our trip.

Some of the biggest health risks that people face occur while sunbathing. The biggest risk is obviously skin cancer. Around one in five people will develop skin cancer by the age of 70. One set of data shows that 419,254 cases are directly attributable to using tanning beds, but the actual number if certainly higher. Sadly, an even higher number of people probably develop skin cancer from tanning at the beach.

Another health risk is eye damage. Sunburned eyes are a very common problem, especially at the beach.

How You Can Stay Safe and Healthy at the Beach

You will want to follow these tips in order to stay safe and healthy while spending time at the beach.

A good pair of sunglasses

While the bright sunlight may make you feel good within yourself, it could also obstruct your vision. Wearing a pair of sunglasses with built-in UV protection could allow you to keep the glare at bay and still be able to take in the sights of the beach. Those rays can also cause severe damage to your eyes. When you spend a lot of time in the sun, this could increase your chances of developing eyesight problems in the future that could require surgery to fix. In addition to this, those sunglasses could also help to prevent sand or other debris from getting in your eyes, especially if there is a breeze.

The correct SPF sunscreen

You also want to reduce the risk of skin cancer due to sun exposure. The best way to do this is by wearing the risk sunscreen.

Wearing sun lotion isn’t just important for children. Adults should also be mindful of the damage that can be done to the skin. As with your eyes, your skin could also become permanently damaged by those UV rays. This could speed up the signs of ageing, and even contribute towards the development of cancer. A high SPF lotion is more likely to protect you for significantly longer than one that is lower. Some people may think that darker skin tones don’t require this protection, yet these myths can be dangerous. Those with darker tones may not burn as obviously as their fairer counterparts, but that damage can still occur.

Shoes for the sea

Protection doesn’t have to matter for the future. You may also want to think about ways that you can have fun and remain safe in the present. While some of the allure of going on a beach holiday can be to spend time in the water, this could come with its own risks. Sharp rocks, shells, and even aquatic life could lead to injury. To overcome the likelihood of this happening, you may want to think about wearing some water shoes to offer your feet some protection. These are usually incredibly lightweight, meaning they shouldn’t interfere with your ability to swim. When you’re finished at the beach, simply brush off any sand and leave them to dry out before your next trip.

A beach holiday can allow you to relax and unwind in some beautiful weather conditions. You may want to consider the above items for your travel bag, so that you can prevent injury from occurring both now and in the future. This can allow you to better focus on enjoying yourself.
