You could say running is a way of life for 15-year-old Sam Silverman, a freshman at The Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore. She participates in track and says she’s played soccer “forever.”

When she heard about a free running clinic offered at Sinai Hospital, it piqued her curiosity. So, she came out to see what it was all about (with her running shoes on, of course).

This running clinic is a free community service that is led by physical therapist Mary Campbell.

When she heard about a free running clinic offered at Sinai Hospital, it piqued her curiosity. So, she came out to see what it was all about (with her running shoes on, of course).

This running clinic is a free community service that is led by physical therapist Mary Campbell.

Mary explains a little more about the clinic.

The first clinic was held in late December, and it proved to be a great success. So much that Mary decided to hold it as a quarterly event.

Spots for the second clinic filled up quickly — bringing in a mixture of experienced runners like Sam, casual runners and everyone in between — for a 20-minute session with Mary.

To get a taste of what happened on this Tuesday evening, we followed Sam through her session.

After signing in, Sam underwent a quick exam with Mary, followed by a brief run on the treadmill. As Sam raced along on the treadmill, Mary videoed her from all angles.

Then came the fun part. After a brief cool down, Sam and Mary examined the video on a laptop. They looked at Sam’s running motion from each angle as Mary offered feedback. Even for an experienced runner like Sam, there was something to learn.

Here she shares her thoughts:

Mary said that the next running clinic is scheduled for June. Check the community calendar in the next few weeks for more info.
