In today?s modern world, there are many diseases that are transmitted by everything from mosquitoes to birds and from our own family pets to the doctor?s office we visit when sick, that it can be a bit scary to think about. Brushing it under the rug however, is how many people become sick and the diseases spread from one place to the other. With that in mind, read on below for a few of the top ways diseases can be spread. Disease Spreading Pests There are many pests and disease carrying bugs out there. Below you will find a few of the main ones.

  • Mosquitoes
  • Flies
  • Lice, though mostly in underdeveloped countries
  • Fleas
  • Sandflies
  • Ticks
  • Roaches

While these pests carry different diseases from malaria and West Niles which is transmitted by mosquitoes to salmonella and parasitic worms carried by roaches, there is a pretty easy way to prevent these diseases from entering your home and threatening your family. Hiring a reputable and effective pest control company like Moxie Pest Control is the best way to prevent diseases from insects from entering your home. If you have regular pest control done on your home and property, you can prevent the problem from happening to begin with. In the case of mosquitoes, spraying the property is good, but emptying any standing water and wearing bug spray and protective clothing when outside is even better. Doctors? Offices Nothing can be full of infectious diseases like your local doctor?s office. To protect your family, it?s best not to go into see your doctor during flu season unless absolutely necessary. Doctors do everything they can to prevent diseases from spreading from patient to patient, but they can only do so much. Livestock Very few people don?t know that livestock can be transmit diseases as well. There a quite a few diseases that can be transmitted from livestock to humans. Pigs, chicken, cattle, goats, and even sheep top the list. Researchers are working to isolate and decide what diseases each could have and how they affect humans. In the meantime, it’s safe to say it’s best to stay away from livestock unless working around them, in which case adhering to the essentials of personal hygiene is essential to stay protected from animal-borne disease. Birds The idea of birds transmitting diseases to has been prevalent for the last few years. From the Avian bird flu to H1N1, birds are mainly a threat in densely populated areas where they are attracted to the food and shelter of the bustling community. In the event a particular strain goes around, public health officials will institute an all-but mandatory mass vaccination effort. It would behoove you and your family to get such a vaccination as soon as possible. Fortunately, such deadly flu strains are rare. Pets It?s sad to think that the pets you love so much could be carriers of disease, but it?s true. Also carrying diseases are bats, dogs, cats and other carnivores. The disease they carry most often is rabies. While you can get rabies shots for your pets, that?s not possible in bats, squirrels, and other mammals of their kind. There is no cure for rabies and the shots are quite painful to prevent it from happening once you have been bitten. These are just a few of the ways that transmitted diseases affect humans on a yearly basis. Now that you know what they are, it will be easier for you to be on the look out and do everything you can to prevent them from happening to you and the family you love.
