Vermont is busy preparing for the very real possibility of healthcare reform in the form of single-payer delivery. Leave it to Fox News to report on an eleventh hour provision to prevent illegals from obtaining universal access courtesy Green Mountain Care.

“When we say health care is a human right, we mean for everybody who lives and works in Vermont regardless of legal status,” the Vermont Workers’ Center said in a statement.”We will not tolerate racial profiling and accept the unjust immigration and foreign policies of the federal government. We can do better than that.”

Racial profiling? As if illegal aliens are a race of people, in which case, such discrimination in any forthcoming law would be unconstitutional. What appears to be angering activism on the side of the illegal aliens in the push for complete taxpayer-subsidized healthcare delivery is the ultimate acknowledgment by lawmakers there that, in order to achieve the goal of single payer care, the state has to be fiscally prudent at securing the foundation for its implementation. That means everything from using mechanisms such as federal waivers (to get out of compliance with coverage limits prior to 2014) to excluding funding for coverage of its non-residents in order to fund its statewide exchange. Although an impartial body empaneled to review the administrative accountability of such a delivery system would be part of this single-payer legislation — including ongoing assessments of the program’s affordability — there still remain concerns that it will take more than just a last-minute amendment to this bill to consider up-front costs to Vermont if it passes. | LINK
