There are many benefits to having your carpet professionally cleaned, from getting rid of odors to removing stains to brightening the carpet as a whole.  Overall, the professional carpet cleaning cost is highly worthwhile, keeping your home looking and feeling as fresh as possible.  However, one benefit that many people do not know about is that it can also make your home healthier by decreasing the indoor air pollution inside your home.

What is indoor air pollution?

Indoor air pollution is when the air inside the home is saturated with particles that have been brought in from outside.  This can be anything from pollen to skin cells to dust mites to pollutants from cars and fuels.  Soft furnishings attract such particles and trap them, which can cause health problems as they remain in the air for long periods of time.  It is increasingly important as the world becomes more polluted that we protect ourselves against such pollution.

So, what does this have to do with the carpet in particular? Well, since the carpet is what we walk on and inevitably spill things on, it ends up with a lot more pollution than other soft furnishings. No matter what, the carpet is likely to be a lot more saturated with pollution than anything else in your home, so making sure that it’s clean should be an absolute priority.

What are the risks of indoor air pollution?

There are a number of health risks associated with indoor pollution. Understanding these risks will help you appreciate the importance of keeping your home clean to curb indoor pollution risks. Some of the risks of indoor pollution include:

  • Nausea

This is one of the reasons there is a strong correlation between home hygiene and residential health. You will need to clean your carpets regularly to fight these problems.

What does cleaning your carpet do?

Having your carpet professionally cleaned makes your home healthier in so many different ways.  Harmful things can become trapped there that you may not even have thought of before, such as:

  • Mould: this can grow in dirty carpets due to increased humidity or spillages that are not cleaned up and dried effectively, or even from rainfall making its way into your building.  Mould can be extremely harmful to breathe in, and having your carpet cleaned properly is an effective way to get rid of it and maintain your health.
  • Dust mites: dust mites could be in your home without you even knowing about it due to the fact that they are so small.  The mites are able to burrow deeply into the fibres of your carpets, and when there is movement in the carpet you could inhale them without knowing.  When a carpet is professionally cleaned, these mites will be successfully removed and you will not need to worry about inhaling them.
  • Pollutants: pollutants from outside the home can linger in the carpet fibres, and when breathed in for long periods of time these pollutants can be harmful and bad for your health.  The longer you go without cleaning, the more of these will be trapped in the carpet and the more harmful it will get.  In order to prevent this buildup, hiring a professional cleaner is the more effective way.

You should appreciate these benefits if you want to stay healthy and avoid problems caused by indoor air pollution.

Curbing Indoor Air Pollution Health Risks with Regular Carpet Cleaning

Indoor air pollution creates a variety of health problems. You need to rigorously follow these carpet cleaning guidelines to prevent cancer, respiratory diseases and other health risks.
