The U.S. healthcare system needs an overhaul. I don’t know of anyone who would disagree with me. Beginning tomorrow, October 1st health providers will transition to a new clinical documentation system called ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases) to document a provider’s encounter with a patient. The previous system, ICD-9 lacked the level of specificity needed to adequately describe a patient’s medical issue. Leave it to the government to make things more complicated. ICD-10 has 68,000 procedure codes, as opposed to the 13,000 in ICD-9.
