The average American spends $1,432 on prescription medications a year. The high cost of prescription medications often makes headlines, and states across the country are implementing various measures to lower prescription prices for their residents.

WebMD has some great tips on saving on prescriptions. However, one option they didn’t mention was using BuzzRX.

Of course, not everyone will benefit from such initiatives, which often are relatively limited in scope, even within state boundaries. With prescription drug prices continuing to rise, even those who have health insurance are struggling to afford their medications, making new ways to save more important than ever. This is a great way to help people cope with rising healthcare costs.

As Matthew Herfield, Co-Founder and CEO of BuzzRx, a prescription discount service, explains, his company’s app can be an essential tool in helping individuals and families save money on their medications. Here’s a closer look at why you should download this app immediately.

1. It’s Free

Perhaps one of the most compelling selling points of the BuzzRx app is that it is completely free to download and use. Individuals can download the app via the Apple App Store or the Google Play store and immediately start obtaining discounts on their prescription medications.

“While you still have to pay for your discounted prescriptions at the pharmacy, our app and card have always been completely free to use,” Herfield explains. “We’re compensated by the pharmacy when customers use our app at their location, based on a nominal fee that is incorporated into the discounted price of the prescription. So app users never have to pay anything to BuzzRx.”

2. There Are No Qualification Requirements

If you’re worried about meeting certain requirements in order to use the discount service, this isn’t the case with BuzzRx. The BuzzRx app does not require qualification based on age, income, or any other similar factors. Anyone can take advantage of BuzzRx prescription discounts.

In fact, a single app account can be used by an entire family. Because there is no paperwork or qualification criteria for using the BuzzRx app, individuals can begin finding discounts for their medications as soon as it is installed on their phones. It is a great way to help bring down the costs of healthcare.

3. You Can Unlock Major Savings On Prescriptions

Unsurprisingly, the biggest motivator for many individuals to download the BuzzRx app stems from the potential discounts they can obtain at the pharmacy.

“Last year, BuzzRx users who filled one prescription per month averaged $845 in savings over the course of the year,” Herfield says. “Actual discount amounts can vary between pharmacies and the type of medication you’re getting, but we typically see an average of a 60% discount. With brand name prescriptions, discounts tend to average between 10% and 15%, while discounts can be as high as 90% on generic drugs.”

As these numbers illustrate, the potential savings can be significant, especially for households that need to fill multiple prescriptions. Such discounts could easily make the difference in an individual continuing to take their medication as prescribed so they can get the necessary care for an ongoing condition.

4. It’s Accepted Nationwide

Another great perk of the BuzzRx app is that it can be used nationwide. BuzzRx is accepted at over 60,000 pharmacies, including leading chains like Walgreens, CVS, Walmart and Rite Aid. This widespread adoption by national and local pharmacies helps ensure that the app’s benefits are readily accessible to a broad group.

The app itself also has helpful tools that make it easy to find participating pharmacies. “You can turn on your location or do a search for local pharmacies that carry your prescription and get an instant price comparison right there in the app,” Herfield says. “Even with the BuzzRx discount, prices can vary quite a bit from one pharmacy to another. Finding the cheapest option in your area can help to maximize your savings.”

5. You Can Use It Even If You Have Insurance

Even if you have insurance, your prescription medication costs can still get expensive. In fact, Health Policy Today estimates that one-third of Americans who have health insurance are prescribed a medication that their insurer doesn’t cover, as exclusion lists have grown significantly over the last few years.

Even when insurance does cover a medication, copays, and coinsurance fees can still be surprisingly expensive. “While BuzzRx can’t be used in combination with your insurance,” Herfield explains, “It’s not unusual for the BuzzRx discount pricing to be lower than what you’d pay with your copay or coinsurance. That’s why we recommend always checking which option is cheaper when you go to the pharmacy, so you can get the best deal possible.”

Purchases made with the BuzzRx app generally do not count toward your insurance deductible, though quite often, the savings from using the app outweigh this factor.

Download and Start Saving

As these insights reveal, the BuzzRx app is well worth adding to your phone so you can start saving on your prescription medications. Regardless of the type of medication you take, where you live, or your insurance status, chances are you’ll be able to enjoy significant discounts on your prescriptions with the help of this handy app.
