2020 is a year that called for health awareness in the population due to the pandemic. As such, the year 2021 is challenging everyone to implement a healthy lifestyle. Building a strong immune system and preventing chronic diseases are some of the health goals that people are now setting. One way to achieve your health goals is by minding your diet. Changing your diet is the first step to healthier living in 2021. Some diets you should consider adopting in 2021 include:

Vegan

A vegan diet should make it to your top list of diets to observe in 2021. This is because it effectively maintains good heart health, digestive health, and promotes weight loss if you are looking for some weight-loss regimens. All animal products are eliminated from this diet; it only contains plant-based foods. The vegan menu includes everything from banana chocolate chip pancakes to meat-free burger patties. Best of all, going vegan is connected to positive health outcomes; reduced meat consumption has long been linked to a reduced risk of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.

Keto

A keto diet, also known as a ketogenic or a low carbohydrate diet, involves increasing your fat intake and lowering your carbohydrate intake. It induces your body into a state of ketosis. When this happens, you burn more fats increasing the energy supply to the brain. This diet is important for overall body health and weight loss. It also has some potential health benefits, including combating diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. Foods to include in this diet include avocados, butter, nuts, fatty fish, meat, eggs, cheese, and healthy oils like extra virgin olive oil.

Paleo

A paleo diet is among the most popular diets worldwide. It involves avoiding processed foods known to have some health consequences. In simple terms, processed foods can be defined as any foods that are frozen, baked, canned, or undergone any changes in their nutritional value through preservation or fortification. They have a high content of trans fats, sugar, and salt. Some foods that count as processed foods include cereals you eat for breakfast, cheese, bread, cakes, biscuits, soft drinks, sausage rolls, bacon, ham, pies, and tinned vegetables. A paleo diet generally improves your body’s health and helps you lose weight.

Gluten-free

Many grains you eat like wheat, barley, and rye contain gluten, a protein. Wheat has the highest content of gluten. There are a lot of controversies on whether gluten is right for your health. Gliadin, a protein found in gluten, is responsible for the negative health outcomes caused by a gluten-rich diet. Some of these outcomes include irritable bowel syndrome and celiac disease. When you start taking a gluten-free diet, you avoid these negative health effects and start your journey to a healthy 2021.

Mediterranean

The Mediterranean diet includes foods like legumes, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, extra virgin olive oil, dairy, and poultry products. These foods contribute to the overall function of this diet, which is to promote good heart health. It’s linked to a reduced risk of hypertension and atherosclerosis, which is the build-up of plaque on blood vessels walls preventing blood flow.

The above diets are your ticket to a healthier 2021. Whichever diet you settle on is effective in preventing diseases and promoting good health. However, you can combine any of the above diets with exercise to effectively improve your health in 2021.
