If you are a nurse looking for career mobility and are looking to improve your community at the same time, perhaps furthering your education is an option worth pursuing.

Getting your masters degree in nursing opens up new opportunities–a bigger salary, greater autonomy and many more benefits. In 16 states, nurse practitioners are able to work independent of a doctor. Otherwise, NPs collaborate with physicians, but have more control over the health care process as a whole than their RN counterparts. 

Spending time with patients allows nurse practitioners to develop close relationships with the many people they encounter on a daily basis, and therefore educate and counsel many people on disease prevention and lifestyle.
