We have talked a lot about some of the ways that our physical appearance impacts our mental health. This is one of the reasons that we wrote an article on how beauty technology is helping people with their mental health.

One controversial way that women can improve their mental health is by getting breast augmentations. One study found that 90% of women that received an augmentation reported improved mental health and another found that 80% reported an improved quality of life.

We talked with a plastic surgeon from Texas, who has some great insights on the mental health benefits of breast augmentation surgery. Keep reading to learn more.

Breast augmentation combined with a lift is not just a procedure, it’s a transformation. It offers substantial benefits to those seeking to restore the shape and volume of their breasts, instilling a sense of hope and optimism. Dr. Sam Jejurikar, a prominent plastic surgeon from Dallas, Texas, shares his insights on this life-changing cosmetic surgery.

The procedure is particularly beneficial for women looking to regain their pre-pregnancy body or after significant weight loss. Dr. Jejurikar explains that while motherhood is a blessing, it often changes a woman’s body, especially the breasts. This combined procedure is a key component of what is commonly referred to as the “mommy makeover.”

Combining breast augmentation with a lift addresses two significant concerns: volume loss and sagging. Pregnancy and breastfeeding can lead to stretched skin and reduced breast tissue, resulting in a deflated and droopy appearance. Augmentation restores volume, while a lift repositions the breast tissue and tightens the skin, creating a more youthful and perky contour.

Dr. Jejurikar emphasizes that each patient’s procedure is not just a routine but a personalized journey. Factors such as the extent of droopiness, desired volume, and the quality of breast tissue are critical in determining the best approach. In most cases, he prefers placing the implant behind the muscle, which helps maintain the implant’s position and provides a more natural look, especially when combined with an internal bra or tissue support. Silicone gummy implants are often chosen for their natural feel and durability.

The lift technique chosen depends on the degree of sagging. A lollipop (circumvertical) lift is suitable for minor adjustments, while a traditional anchor (wise pattern) lift offers better control and results for more significant sagging. Dr. Jejurikar and his colleagues agree on these techniques based on each patient’s specific needs.

Postoperative care is not just a formality, it’s a crucial part of the journey to optimal results. Dr. Jejurikar advises patients on the importance of the healing process, including scar management with silicone ointments and possibly laser treatments. Patients are typically advised to avoid strenuous activities for several weeks to ensure proper healing and prevent complications, providing a sense of reassurance and care.

Dr. Jejurikar shared a case study of a patient who underwent a breast augmentation and lift. The patient, who experienced significant weight loss and breast changes post-pregnancy, desired fuller, rounder breasts. Dr. Jejurikar performed a lollipop lift with a moderate-profile implant, resulting in a natural and aesthetically pleasing outcome.

However, the procedure has its challenges. Achieving the right balance between lift and volume, managing patient expectations, and ensuring long-term results require skill and experience. Dr. Jejurikar’s approach involves thorough consultations to understand patient goals and meticulous surgical planning to achieve the desired results.

Breast augmentation with a lift is highly satisfying for patients and surgeons. It addresses common concerns related to breast volume and shape, providing a significant boost in confidence and body image for many women. Dr. Sam Jejurikar’s expertise and patient-centered approach highlight the importance of personalized care in achieving the best outcomes in breast cosmetic surgery.
