For most people, coffee is the preferred drink for an energy boost to be more productive throughout the day. The main active ingredient in coffee is caffeine, and the higher the caffeine content, the stronger the coffee.

Knowing how to extract the most caffeine out of your coffee will give you stronger coffee and a more considerable energy boost whenever you need it. It would be best if you did not confuse a dark roast with stronger coffee as they don’t often mean the same thing.

If you want to get the most caffeine out of coffee, the following are some things you should try:

Choose The Right Coffee Beans

When choosing coffee beans, you should consider a couple of things. The altitude at which the coffee was grown is the first. Coffee grown at lower altitudes tends to have higher caffeine content than coffee grown at higher altitudes. Coffee at lower altitudes has adapted to have higher caffeine levels to repel more abundant insects than in higher altitudes.

The other factor is the type of coffee beans which you should also consider when getting a monthly coffee subscription. The two main types of coffee beans are Arabica and Robusta. Robusta beans have a higher caffeine content than Arabica.

Therefore, if you want more caffeine in your coffee, you should get Robusta beans or blends with higher Robusta content.

Coffee Grind

The way you grind your coffee beans will affect your coffee’s caffeine content and your health. The reason is that grinding affects the surface area of the coffee bean exposure, and the higher the surface area exposure, the higher the caffeine you can extract from the beans.

Subsequently, the finer the grind, the more the surface area exposure meaning more water can interact with the grounds.

On the other hand, a fine grind will not work for every brewing method. Therefore, you must determine. You should consider the brewing method and the grind size suitable for each.

The best option would be to have various ranges of coffee grind, preferably medium to fine, as you will still get the most caffeine out of your coffee without affecting the brew.

Brewing Method

Your brewing method also affects the coffee’s caffeine content. Therefore, when you are brewing your morning cup of coffee, you should try and brew it with a method that extracts more caffeine from the coffee.

The Turkish brewing method involves exposing coffee to water throughout the brewing process. Because of the constant exposure, the coffee is robust and bitter.

Making espresso is also a brewing method that utilizes a very fine grind and extremely high pressure. The combination allows the technique to use little water, meaning it has a very high ratio. Hence, an espresso is the brewing method with the highest caffeine content of all.

The grind size and brewing time are vital to choosing a brewing method that extracts the highest amount of caffeine. The longest brewing time and the finest grind often produce the strongest coffee.

Ratio

The higher the coffee bean ratio in your brew, the higher the caffeine content. Therefore, if you want to get more caffeine out of your coffee, you should consider increasing the ratio.

The standard brewing ratio is 1:15 meaning a gram of coffee for every 15 grams of water. You can try a 1:10 ratio which is a gram of coffee for every 10 grams of water. The coffee will be more pungent and more likely bitter, but you can always add a sweetener or bear it.

Coffee is the most popular morning beverage on the planet. It helps increase your energy and keep you alert. To get more caffeine out of your coffee, you can try stronger coffee beans, a finer grind, a different brewing method, increased brewing time, or a higher coffee to water ratio. All will lead to stronger coffee, depending on how you like your coffee.
