I know, I know, it sounds like some selfless promotion, but it isn’t.  The American Telemedicine Association has announced a competition to find the best 30 second and 60 second videos about – what else – telemedicine.  GlobalMed is one of the underwriting sponsors of the contest.

I know, I know, it sounds like some selfless promotion, but it isn’t.  The American Telemedicine Association has announced a competition to find the best 30 second and 60 second videos about – what else – telemedicine.  GlobalMed is one of the underwriting sponsors of the contest.

The purpose of the videos should be one of two things: to create consumer awareness, interest and demand for telemedicine services or to promote the value of telemedicine to hospital and health system administrators.  Since today is July 2, you have nearly six weeks to accomplish this because the entry deadline isn’t until August 15th.

Some ideas to consider:  focus on how telemedicine provides access to healthcare in communities where there is a shortage of healthcare providers; instead of driving to a large urban area for a doctor visit, demonstrate how convenient it would be to see the doctor from a clinic in your small community via telemedicine; show affordability and equity of telemedicine care; often you can see a specialist via telemedicine in a more timely manner than a regular in-person patient appointment; or any other benefit you can come up with.

What’s at stake?  $5,000.  That’s how much the Best Video on Consumer Awareness and the Best Video on Provider Adoption can earn you.  There are two other categories with $2,000 top prizes: Best Non-English Language Video and Best Video Produced by a Student.  If you’re going to compete for the student award though, you have to send the ATA proof of fulltime student enrollment at the time of submission.  A review committee will also nominate 10 outstanding video submissions (not including those who receive the top prizes).  ATA members will then vote on their favorites.  The top two vote getters will each receive $1,000.

So get started all you “Cecil B. Demilles.”  Once you’re ready to submit your video, here’s where you do that:  www.americantelemed.org/videocontest or www.facebook.com/AmericanTelemed.
