Summer is in full swing… are you taking care of yourself? Whether you’ve booked some vacation days to relax or have a jam-packed schedule full of summer fun, understanding the importance of self-care should be of top priority. Within this guide, we’ll take you through seven ways to enjoy a summer of self-care.

Contents
1. Eat Fresh Foods2. Soak Up The Rays3. Take Advantage Of Longer Days4. Walk Lots5. Stay Away From Tech6. Make Your Environment Brighter7. Water, Water, Water!

1. Eat Fresh Foods

It’s unlikely that you’ll be craving warm meals during the summertime, but this doesn’t mean that you should avoid eating altogether. Healthy eating is the way forward during summertime, and luckily, it’s very easy to do!

Take full advantage of lighter foods during the summer, whether it be through fresh salads or vegetable-packed pastas. Make sure that you don’t eat salads with tons of dressings, because they are not good for you. It’s also worth adding water-based foods to your diet, which includes the delicious cucumber and watermelon.

2. Soak Up The Rays

While too much exposure to sunlight isn’t great for your body, soaking up the rays in small quantities might actually benefit you. This is because your body produces vitamin D when exposed to sunlight.

Unlike other vitamins, vitamin D isn’t as easy to obtain through foods, making it all the more important to get out in the sun. To further safeguard your intake, you could also choose to take daily vitamin D tablets all year round.

3. Take Advantage Of Longer Days

During the summer, the sun rises earlier and sets later. This gives the illusion that you have more hours in the day! To complete a proper summer of self-care, we highly recommend taking advantage of these longer days. Whether you complete a workout in the morning or go on a summer’s evening walk, there are plenty of healthy things that you can do.

4. Walk Lots

Speaking of walking, it’s wise to do lots of it during the summer. On some days, it might feel far too hot to complete an intense workout. But, this doesn’t mean that you have to ditch moving your body altogether! Walking provides the perfect medium, getting your blood pumping without having to work up too much of a sweat. Whenever possible, walk as much as you can and enjoy being out in the warmer weather.

5. Stay Away From Tech

In a world ruled by technology, it’s all too easy to get stuck on your phone and miss the summer days. We’re here to remind you that this isn’t the best thing for a summer of self-care!

Whether seeing friends or squeezing in some exercise, there are plenty more beneficial things to do with your time. Allocate certain time slots throughout the day to check your phone and be as strict as need be when staying away from it. We can almost guarantee that you’ll make some awesome memories because of it.

6. Make Your Environment Brighter

To reflect the brighter days, consider switching up your environment. Swap out dark interiors for brighter ones and let the light shine through. You might be surprised to discover just how much it will lift your mood.

7. Water, Water, Water!

Remaining hydrated is important all year round. Your body needs water to function normally (EFSA, 2011). During summer, your body will sweat more, increasing the chances of dehydration. Don’t forget to keep water on you at all times!
