Modern life and the demands it places on our time and energy can often leave us feeling drained and depleted. Whether it’s juggling work and family life responsibilities or maintaining an exercise regimen while maintaining personal and social commitments, the result can take a toll on our wellbeing. Fortunately, there are some natural ways to improve energy levels and there are also traditional medical options to consider as well.

According to figures from the CDC, the prevalence of tiredness or exhaustion in the U.S. is higher than one might think. In 2022, 13.5% of the adult population reported feeling very tired or exhausted most days or every day. As a result, most people turn to stimulants such as caffeine or sugary snacks to keep them awake and energized throughout the day. However, this can lead to dependency and energy crashes and can also interfere with sleep, further exacerbating the problem.

Fortunately, there are many healthier alternatives which can help people feel more energized and ready to face the day. In this article, we will explore some of these in more detail, offering practical tips for sustaining energy levels naturally and effectively throughout the day.

Stay Hydrated

Rather than relying on caffeinated beverages like tea, coffee or energy drinks to boost energy levels, staying hydrated throughout the day can help give the body the energy it needs to keep going.

The human body is about 60% water. This life-giving fluid is essential for the normal working of bodily functions such as digestion, lubrication of joints and the regulation of body temperature. Cognitive function is also significantly affected by hydration as studies show how even mild hydration can impair brain function and increase feelings of fatigue.  This highlights the importance of staying adequately hydrated throughout the day to ensure optimum energy levels.

Get Enough Sleep

Lack of sleep is one of the primary contributory factors which lead to low energy levels or fatigue. This may be the result of poor sleep hygiene, poor quality of sleep or underlying sleep disorder such as insomnia or sleep apnea.

Deprivation of deep sleep can severely impair an individual’s energy levels, leaving them feeling fatigued and unable to function at their best.  Scientists have found that the body repairs and renews itself during deep sleep or slow-wave sleep. This is when the body is most able to make the energy molecule, known as ATP.

People can improve their sleep quality by avoiding caffeinated drinks after noon and large meals close to bedtime as well as creating a routine that helps them to relax and unwind before going to sleep.

IV Therapy

The body needs certain vital nutrients and fluids to function optimally. Without these, individuals can feel mentally and physically depleted. One way to address any deficiencies and replenish the body with what it needs is by undergoing an IV therapy treatment. This entails an infusion of specially formulated vitamins, minerals and fluids directly into the bloodstream to help combat feelings of fatigue and low energy.

This will typically include ingredients such as vitamin B complex, vitamin C, taurine, magnesium, zinc, and a blend of amino acids designed to give the body the boost of energy it needs. If you would like to learn more about becoming an IV therapy practitioner you may consider this online IV therapy course which will provide you with everything you need to provide IV therapy in your clinic.

Dietary Changes

While food is the fuel that nourishes and sustains the body, it is important to consider the quality and quantity of food being consumed to maintain optimum energy levels. The best way to ensure this is by eating a healthy and nutrituous diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, wholegrains, protein and healthy fats. Processed foods should be kept to a minimum as they typically contain  additives, preservatives, sodium, refined sugars, trans fat, and other artificial ingredients that can contribute to fatigue and lower energy levels.

In addition to consuming the right foods, it’s important not to overeat as this causes expansion of the stomach. As a result, other organs can be pushed against by the stomach leading to feelings of pressure and discomfort which can produce tiredness, sluggishness or drowsiness. Overeating also requires more energy to go toward digestion, as the body needs to work harder to break down these large quantities of food. Instead, portion sizes should be kept to a moderate and healthy size.

By following these tips, individuals can ward off fatigue and greatly improve their energy levels and overall mental and physical well being.
