Why Are A Baby’s Health Care Needs Different Than Ours?
A baby has special health care needs that are different than adults or even older children. They have not been vaccinated for diseases like older children and adults have. Their immune systems are not as mature as that of an older person and they can catch things more easily. In addition, their body is still growing and their organs are small and that can make catching things or getting over things more difficult.

Preventative Health Care For A Baby
Babies need lots of medical supervision in the first year or two of their life. They almost always have frequent well baby visits where they will be examined by their pediatrician or other medical professional to make sure that they are developing normally. The doctor will keep an eye on their physical development as well as observing their motor skills, social and mental development. This is a good idea because if there is a problem observed then it will be caught early in order to provide intervention for the best possible outcome.

The Common Cold Is Very Common For A Baby
The common cold is very common for a baby to have. In fact, it is estimated that babies have between ten to twelve colds in the first year of their life. This means that the baby will have a cold a lot of of the time. These colds serve an important purpose because they are teaching the baby’s immune system to develop better and learn to fight things off.

Other Common Illnesses For A Baby To Have
There are other common illnesses a baby can have besides the common cold. One such illness is an ear infection which usually stems from a common cold. An ear infection is an illness that requires medical treatment. Thrush is a common illness for a baby to have. Thrush is a fungus that a baby can get in its mouth. It’s easily treatable and not usually serious but does require a trip to the doctor to get the needed medication. RSV stands for Respiratory Syncytial Virus and that is an illness that baby usually contracts at least once within the first couple of years of their life. It is viral but can become serious and should be carefully monitored by a doctor.
