Honey

Honey has been known for a long time to have very strong beneficial effects on the skin and is a common ingredient in DIY face masks. Unfortunately, the amount of honey required for a typical full treatment can get a bit expensive, but there are various clever ways to reduce this requirement. And needless to say, you should be very picky about the source of your honey. On a related note, look into beeswax as well. It’s commonly used for its thickening properties, and you can even use it as a substitute for honey itself in recipes that call for that characteristic sweet smell.

Baking Soda

Baking soda has many various health benefits, and it looks like we’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg in terms of what it’s capable of. The product is frequently used as an active ingredient in many DIY solutions for body care, and its applications are quite diverse. From polishing your teeth to reducing body odors, to even dealing with heartburn and other internal conditions, baking soda can seem like a miracle ingredient in some regards. It’s also cheap and widely available, making it one of the perfect ingredients for home solutions. Baking soda is particularly good when dealing with rashes and similar conditions, and if you’re frequently suffering from any kind of skin irritation, it’s a good idea to look into it as a possible solution.

Coconut Oil

You’ve probably already heard about this one here and there, as it’s hard to avoid the hype that surrounds it. But there’s a good reason for that. Coconut oil is a fantastic product with many proven health benefits, not just when consumed but when used externally as well. However, make sure that you only use pure, organic coconut oil and not any refined variants because those can often take away many of the oil’s beneficial properties. It can also get a bit expensive, though most suppliers should be able to cut you a nice deal for ordering in bulk – so take advantage of that as much as you can. You’ll soon enough find that coconut oil is an ingredient you can put on pretty much anything you’re creating when it comes to body care.

White Vinegar

Another popular ingredient that’s been on many people’s radars for a while now, white vinegar has a solid place in home cosmetics for many reasons. It’s a good acidic agent when you need one, and it can be great for removing oil from different areas of your body. It’s especially popular for haircare products for this specific property, and just a few drops can resolve most problems you might encounter with your hair.

Conclusion

The more you keep exploring the alternatives to over-the-counter products, the more you’ll realize that it doesn’t make sense to spend all that money on commercial products potentially full of harmful toxins. Many of the things you will need are completely within your reach to create yourself, and it’s a good idea to explore that opportunity as best as you can. It’s not just about saving money – it’s about treating your body the right way and giving it what it needs.
