These disparities encompass their work settings, approaches to their responsibilities, and the extent of their educational attainment. With these factors in play, you can find nurses who have perfected their specific positions and become professionals in those branches of medicine. You can choose to become one of the five types of nurses listed below while you pursue a nursing profession.

Pediatric Nurse

Pediatric nurses are those who have specialized in dealing with children from teens down to toddlers. Pediatric nurses must understand how a child’s body responds to various medications and how different it is from an adult’s. Dealing with sick toddlers who can only communicate their problems by yelling or sobbing, teenagers who can be pretty uncooperative, and parents who are frequently emotional wrecks due to their child’s illness can be very distracting. As a pediatric nurse, you must be a master at dealing with situations involving uncertainty and intense emotions.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Psychiatric nurse practitioners are among the most in-demand nurse positions today due to the rising mental health crisis. These nurses understand mental health and how patients respond to various treatments. They can diagnose mental problems and suggest treatment options and plans according to the gathered information. They usually assess the different patients and how they respond to their treatment to advise on changes or any new information that may develop due to the treatment.

Nurse Manager

Additionally, you can work towards becoming a nurse in a management or director capacity, which can be very rewarding financially. You must hold a bachelor’s in nursing before studying a master’s. Some programs are available online, like the ABSN program for future nurses. You can take the course while still performing your duties as a nurse, which means you are gaining an education while building on experience. This can work in your favor because a managerial or director’s position needs someone who understands how the hospital works. Experience also builds competence, something essential when working in the medical field.
