Workplace illnesses are very serious. A recent survey found that 90% of employees admit to going to work while they are sick. The consequences can be dire. In New York State alone, an estimated 7,000 people die every year due from illnesses contracted at work.

Workplace illnesses can be even more devastating during a major health crisis, such as the Covid-19 pandemic. This underscores the need for proper workplace hygiene controls. Workplace hygiene is especially important during the Covid-19 crisis, but it should also be practiced all the time.

A hygienic workplace is essential for a happy and productive team of workers. By simply raising the standard of hygiene in the workplace the functionality of the entire business is improved. But keeping an immaculately clean workplace is not only about running a happy and productive business, it is also important that you are complying with health and safety regulations. Sometimes we assume that a place is clean simply because it looks clean — but there can still be many invisible pathogens scattered about your workplace.

What is Workplace Hygiene?

Maintaining a high level of workplace hygiene is all about creating a consistent plan and rolling with it. You can do this by carefully planning out the best course to keep your location cleaned. This begins with a standard of cleanliness that applies to all employees. This includes standards for personal hygiene, like washing hands. It also includes standards of general hygiene, like cleaning restrooms and kitchens, and calling in specialists cleaners as needed.
