In 2017, Elizabeth Mostofsky, a renowned expert in the field of epidemiology published a study in the prestigious British Medical Journal that focused on the benefits of chocolate. The study showed that there is a great benefit of consuming a moderate quantity of dark chocolate. It potentially reduces the risk of suffering from arrhythmias. This finding was supported by other scientific research from the Harvard Gazette of Denmark, which found that the moderate consumption of chocolate with high cocoa content and low sugar is good for health.

Also, a number of studies have found that chocolate can protect the skin against sun damage. This can be good for people that spend a lot of time exposed to UV rays from the sun. Chocolate can also improve the function of the brain. You may be surprised to hear that it can minimize the harmful LDL cholesterol. You can get these benefits by eating cacao.

If you are serious about your health, you should seriously consider eating the “food of the gods”, which is a term from the Aztec society for the bitter cocoa beans they harvested. These beans originated from present-day Mexico. At that time, cocoa beans were even used as a currency. Today, many people consider it an aphrodisiac, since it elevates endorphin and serotonin levels, which are the hormones that trigger pleasure and happiness.

However, not all of forms of chocolate are good from you. You should avoid the versions with more sugar, such as white chocolate or chocolate spreads. Instead, you should focus on eating dark chocolate, which is by far the healthiest option.

Realizing the Important Health Benefits of Eating Chocolate

Here are some tips to help you enjoy a few ounces of chocolate every day and get maximum health benefits.

Reduce Appetite

Dark chocolate reduces hunger and makes you feel more satisfied. In addition, a study from Tel Aviv University showed that eating sweets – including chocolate in this group – during the first meal of the day helped you lose weight. However, it is essential that breakfast also incorporates protein and carbohydrates. The key is that the morning is the time of day when the metabolism is most active, so our body is able to burn those extra calories without any major problem.

Reducing Stress

Eating chocolate also helps reduce your stress level since its consumption reduces the level of cortisol, a hormone that is released in response to stress. Therefore, by taking this ingredient, we will feel more relaxed.

Reducing Cholesterol

One of the best benefits of pure cocoa is that it reduces LDL cholesterol levels and raises HDL (“good” cholesterol). This is due to its antioxidant power, which also helps control diabetes and insulin sensitivity.

Antioxidant Benefits

Dark chocolate – with low levels of sugars – has components and active ingredients with antioxidant power. Some of them are polyphenols, flavonoids and catechins. Several investigations have revealed that they have more antioxidants than blueberries and açai.

Improve Blood Flow

Chocolate is rich in flavonoids, an active ingredient that stimulates the arteries so that blood flow is normal and blood pressure drops to standard levels. Therefore, it also helps you lower your blood pressure!

Improving Cognition

Different studies published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology concluded that flavonoids, present in cocoa, are directly related to better cognitive performance. This is because they stimulate and promote changes in the areas of the brain related to learning and memory.

Bolstering Athletic Performance

The amount of magnesium in chocolate helps athletes to level out the levels of this component required for their physical activity. The result is reflected in a muscular strengthening and an energetic contribution that allows the most continuous and constant activity.

There Are Numerous Health Benefits of Chocolate!

Chocolate lovers are in luck. Sweets are the great allies of cavities, but moderate consumption of pure chocolate and low in sweeteners does not influence the appearance of cavities. The key is to find one whose sugar levels are moderate.
