Our understanding of the way our skin works and the best ways to care for it is always evolving. Many trends and concepts that were cutting edge years ago have since fallen out of vogue or have been proved to be ineffective, or less effective than was originally thought. Trends for 2019 are leaning toward ditching products that contain chemicals and artificial ingredients ? which turn out to do more harm than good in a lot of cases ? and embracing more natural, plant based products, such as organic body lotion, naturally derived cleansers and toners, and organic moisturizers, and sun screens. Read on to learn more about 2019 skin care trends and how you can use them to improve the way your skin looks and feels.

Skincare Products That Contain CBD Oil and Hemp Seed Oil

Derived from the hemp plant, CBD oil (CBD is short for cannabidiol) can be found in all sorts of products these days, from coffee to craft beer. Sometimes known as hemp oil, CBD has been shown to contain antioxidants, have anti-inflammatory properties, and contain vitamins A, D and E. It?s used as a natural treatment for anxiety, to treat pain, and as a safe and effective way to treat insomnia. With all these things going for it, it?s not surprising that CBD oil has made its way into skincare products. New skincare products containing CBD oil seem to be popping up every day. Some popular ones include a variety of soaps and cleansers meant to soothe dry and sensitive skin, oil-based eye creams aimed at reducing puffiness, and moisturizers meant to repair winter-dry and chapped skin. Also derived from the hemp plant, hemp seed oil is found in many new skincare products as well. Although hemp seed oil and CBD are different products (they are derived from different parts of the hemp plant), they have many of the same properties. Hemp oil is found in many skin creams meant to reduce redness and smooth skin texture. When choosing skincare products that contain CBD oil or hemp seed oil, look for creams and lotions that were made using organically grown hemp, otherwise you might be exposing yourself to pesticides and chemicals that you?d be better off avoiding.

Products That Contain Polyhydroxy Acids

Up until now, naturally derived acids meant to exfoliate skin, brighten skin?s appearance, treat acne, improve skin texture, and lighten dark spots have pretty much been limited to alpha hydroxy acids, also known as AHAs, and beta hydroxy acids, commonly known as BHAs. These two compounds are highly effective and found in many lotions and moisturizers. One of the products? drawbacks, though, is that they can cause a significant amount of skin irritation in people who have sensitive skin or who take certain medications, leaving their skin red and inflamed, sometimes for days. AHAs and BHAs are also known to increase sun sensitivity in people who use them regularly. Enter polyhydroxy acids, or PHAs. These compounds work in a similar way as AHAs and BHAs to exfoliate skin and treat acne and wrinkles, but they are much more gentle and tend to be safer for people with sensitive skin. PHAs are also loaded with antioxidants and can help to stimulate the growth of new skin cells even as they help skin shed old cells. Polyhydroxy acids can be found in a number of moisturizers, cleansers, toners, lip balms and lotions.

Products that Protect Skin from Pollution

With more and more women opting to go makeup-free these days, there has been concern among skincare scientists that pollution found in the air from the burning of fossil fuels, pesticides, and fertilizers is causing free radical damage and premature aging (makeup can actually act as a barrier to protect skin from pollution). To combat this problem, several skincare companies, including Neutrogena and Aenea, have recently developed products meant to protect skin from airborne pollutants. These are generally applied to the skin after your moisturizer and before applying makeup. You might want to consider adding a pollution protectant to your skincare routine if you spend a lot of time outdoors in an urban area.

Moringa Seed Oil

Products meant to protect skin from pollution generally contain strong antioxidants meant to combat free radical damage. One powerful new antioxidant called moringa seed oil is being used in many anti-pollution products. Moringa seed oil has also been found to promote the regeneration of skin cells and promote the retention of moisture in the skin. The extract can also be found in cleaners, toners and moisturizing creams.

Conclusion

As skincare becomes more and more popular, more powerful ingredients are becoming available. It’s so beneficial to do your research to take quality care of your skin.
