You’re not alone in your frustration. It isn’t that doctors want to make it hard for you. It’s just the economics of supply and demand. The manpower just isn’t there. But people don’t stop getting sick during a bruised economy. Can technology come to the rescue?

Enter ZocDoc. This online startup has increased transparency between physicians and potential patients. By aggregating simple data, the website quickly provides appointment openings in real time and answers to questions like doctor ratings and accepted insurance companies.

ZocDoc, free for consumers, makes things easy. Search results are robust, showing doctor’s names and their availability. It is also easily sortable by average review or soonest appointment.

For a doctor, it is a no-brainer to join ZocDoc. The system easily books more appointments, filling schedule gaps and ultimately making the practice more money.

Currently ZocDoc covers 1,600 cities, or 40 percent of the country. So far, nearly 1 percent of patients in the U.S. uses ZocDoc each month

This new way of communication and technology is another way healthcare is changing.
